On Thursday 13 November, we visited the Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi Park, witnessing families taking their children to a naming ceremony and the procession for a Japanese wedding. In the afternoon, we ascended Tokyo Tower and viewed the city panorama as the bright afternoon turned to bright city lights. We then visited the Ryubo Kai Hombu of Shihan Konishi, who kindly allowed us to train with his students. This was an excellent session and complments were exchanged all round, after which we adjourned with the instructors and senior students to a traditional basement Japanese restaurant, sampling various dishes, alcoholic beverages and arm-wrestling activities.

Five members of TASK recently visited Japan and this is a short account of their experience. Members of the party were:-
Les Albone - 5th Dan Bryan Cross - 5th Dan Steve Protopapas - 5th Dan Bob Gale - 4th Dan Jan Tully - 3rd Dan
We departed for Japan on 11th November and arrived in Tokyo on 12th after a comfortable flight, albeit in excess of 11 hours. After a coach trip from Narita airport, we settled into the Shinjuku Sunroute Plaza Hotel, Tokyo. This was the first of four western-style hotels we used, having decided to book these in advance as newcomers to Japan, rather than opting for more traditional accommodation (something we decided we would do on a future trip). In the evening, we wandered around the bright lights of Tokyo and sampled some Japanese cuisine at a local noodle bar.
